Info about Viagra
What is Viagra?
Viagra was the very first impotence drug. Made by Pfizer, it was launched in mid April 1998 in the US and was an instant hit to treat erectile dysfunction and different degrees of erection problems. Within 14 days of launch - despite the high Viagra price, doctors were writing more than 110,000 Viagra prescriptions a week. In 14 weeks 2 million Viagra prescriptions had been written in the US alone for the now famous 'blue pill'. Over 6 years later, it is still by far the most widely used and established medication for impotence despite the launch of Uprima and recently; Cialis and Levitra.
What are the doses?
Viagra is available in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg. If you have never used it before, you should start with the lowest dose and only increase the strength if ineffective.
Risks Of Viagra
While Viagra is considered safe, it does have some side effects you should be aware of. Some are common and shouldn't cause too much concern. Others are very serious, and if Viagra is combined with certain medications that contain nitrates (such as nitroglycerine) the consequences may be fatal.
If you have a pre-existing cardiovascular condition, you should discuss the risks of taking Viagra with your doctor. If you are approved for Viagra, and any symptoms such as angina pectoris (chest pain), dizziness, or nausea occur during sexual activity, you should stop immediately.
Side Effects?
Most Common: Flushing, headache, nasal congestion, and stomach discomfort following meals. These side effects usually do not need medical attention, and they may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the drug.
Less Common: Abnormal vision, including blurred vision, seeing shades of colours differently than before, or sensitivity to light; bladder pain; cloudy or bloody urine; dizziness; increased frequency of urination; pain on urination, diarrhoea. Report any of these to your doctor.
Important: If you experience a prolonged or painful erection for four hours or more, contact your doctor or emergency medical facility immediately. This condition may require prompt medical treatment to prevent tissue damage of the penis and possible permanent ED.
How does Viagra compare to Cialis or Levitra?
Cialis and Levitra get to work faster than Viagra. They are also in lower doses and they last for up to 36 hours - compared to Viagra that lasts only usually up to 4 hours after sex. With Cialis or Levitra, it does not matter if you have just had a meal - where as with Viagra it tends to be less effective if you have just had a meal with a lot of fat content. Cialis has also been proven to work even if you have had a few drinks. However, that said, Viagra is still the most widely used and established erectile dysfunction drug.
